New York City-based indie rock/pop artist, actor, and filmmaker Rivkah Reyes continues to carve out a unique lane in alternative music with the release of her emotionally charged new single, “Debt Collector,” accompanied by a nostalgic music video filmed on the iconic boardwalk of Coney Island.

Known for transforming personal experiences into brutally honest and relatable anthems, Reyes delivers another poignant chapter in her growing catalog. The song emerged from the aftermath of a breakup and the unusual experience of attending a Lorde concert with the very person at the center of that heartbreak.

“We had a really layered connection and shared grief, so it wasn’t clean or simple,” Reyes explains. “The song isn’t about longing so much as it is about compulsion, like trying to re-enter something you already know isn’t stable and convincing yourself you can do it better this time.”

The title itself reflects the emotional bargaining that often follows difficult relationships. “The ‘debt collector’ idea is about emotional leverage,” Reyes says. “Like, I’ll give you whatever you want if it means I still get access to you.”

Directed by Johanna Block, the accompanying video embraces the bittersweet romance of New York City. Shot entirely on a vintage camcorder, the visual captures the faded charm of Coney Island, creating a dreamlike atmosphere that mirrors the song’s themes of memory, loss, and emotional attachment.

“I’ve always thought Coney Island was one of the most romantic places in the world,” Reyes shares. “It’s relentlessly corny, full of characters, and dripping with old American charm. It felt like the perfect backdrop for my sweet and sad song.”

The release follows Reyes’ acclaimed May single “Miss Congeniality,” an emo-infused Y2K-inspired pop-rock anthem that drew praise from music critics and tastemakers. Atwood Magazine described the track as “a banger with bite, a bruise with glitter on it,” while The LUNA Collective highlighted its “bratty, theatrical and mesmerizing” take on heartbreak.

Reyes first captured public attention as Katie, the bassist in the beloved 2003 film School of Rock. Since then, she has built an impressive multi-hyphenate career spanning music, film, and television. Her recent acting credits include appearances in One of Them Days starring SZA and Keke Palmer, Netflix’s The Merry Gentleman, and the Sundance-premiered fantasy comedy Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls.

Despite her success on screen, music remains at the center of Reyes’ creative identity. Drawing inspiration from artists such as Lana Del Rey, Charli XCX, Hayley Williams, Wet Leg, Joan Jett, Hole, and Rosalía, Reyes blends alternative rock, grunge-pop, and confessional songwriting into what she affectionately calls “sapphic doomcore situationship bangers.”

Her growing musical reputation has earned recognition from major outlets, including Rolling Stone, which previously selected her single “Sick” for its prestigious Songs You Need To Know list.

Fans can catch Rivkah Reyes live when she joins V Silver at Mercury Lounge in New York City on July 28, where audiences can expect the same raw honesty, humor, and emotional intensity that define her music.

With “Debt Collector,” Reyes once again proves that heartbreak, vulnerability, and self-awareness can coexist in songs that are both deeply personal and universally resonant.
