An LAPD homicide detective works to solve the murder of a 13-year-old boy while standing trial in federal court for the murder of a serial killer…IMBD.comScreen Shot 2015-05-22 at 3.56.21 PMWhat I like about the Amazon Originals crime drama “Bosch” (2015) is that it is a faithful adaptation of Michael Connelly’s gritty Los Angeles detective series. Connelly has written over eighteen Harry Bosch novels, so there is a really rich source of material to develop a hit show. Amazon and “Bosch’s” creators Connelly and Eric Overmyer wisely chose Titus Welliver to play the stoic, deadpan and fearless Bosch. Titus is perfect casting because he is a highly respected veteran character TV actor that has appeared in many hit series like “The Good Wife”, “The Mentalist”, “The Last Ship”, “White Collar” and “Suits”. Titus also had a powerful recurring role of Jimmy O’ Phelan on “Sons Of Anarchy”. So it was a gutsy move for Amazon to give Titus a lead role and then follow’s Netflix’s very successful model by surrounding him with more star power such as “The Wire’s” Jaime Hector as his trusted partner Jerry Edgar, “Fringe’s” Lance Reddick as his boss Deputy Chief Irvin Irving and “Covert Affair’s’” Sarah Clarke as Bosch’s love interest/rookie LAPD officer.Screen Shot 2015-05-22 at 4.01.45 PMBosch’s first case is called “City of Bones” and it is very personal for Bosch because he is trying to catch a serial killer who preys on children while at the same time he is on trial for killing the suspect in another open serial killer case. Having two grisly murder cases going on is the type of unique complexity and engaging writing that embodies the Bosch books. “Bosch” would not be made by most TV networks, but that opened the door for Amazon Originals. I strongly suggest if you like HBO’s “True Detective” then you will equally love “Bosh”. I look forward to binge watching the whole season of “Bosch” and I give it a $$$$.
