Sin City Saints (2015) Yahoo! Originals TV Review
Sin City Saints follows the triumphs, travails and transgressions of Las Vegas’ brand-new pro basketball franchise, the Saints.…IMBD.com
Yahoo! has really stepped up its game by lately in Hollywood with bringing NBC’s “Community” back from cancellation Heaven and launching an ambitious sci-fi comedy called “Other Space”. But now it Yahoo has taken another creative step in developing and producing original content by making the sports sitcom “Sin City Saints” about a fictional and dysfunctional professional Las Vegas Basketball team. And what was unusual about my review process this time is that I watched the eight episode series online on Yahoo and YouTube instead of on TV. It does not matter what device one watches “Sin City Saints” because you will be laughing out-loud from all the non-stop NBA-ish inspired hi-jinks. The show revolves around Jake Tullus (Andrew Santino), the Saints happily go-lucky, party anytime and anywhere free-wheeling tech billionaire owner. Jake will do anything legal or illegal to win games, keep his players happy and stay popular with the fans while sexy quick witted Saints President Dusty Halford (Malim Ackerman) reigns in Jake 24/7. And we have ex-NBA players Baron Davis as Billy Crane and Rick Fox as Coach Sam Johnson. Comedian Tom Arnold plays Kevin Freeman, who is Jake’s ethically challenged team fixer.
The “Saints” cast is very diverse with Asian center Wu (Michael Lu), naïve, emotional rookie LaDarius Pope (Keith Powers), Serbian bully/enforcer Arthak (Paul Duke), Dusty’s British assistant Wade (Ryan Cartwright) and plus-sized PR manager Melissa Stanton (B.K. Cannon). And I gotta give a shout out to Justin Cho who plays Byron Sommers the bullied and “money-ball” assistant general manager. I just saw Justin at the Los Angeles Asian Film Festival 2015 premiere of his film Man Up. I happily give “Sin City Saints” $$$.
